Summoning - Habbanan Beneath The Stars
I'm a big fan of the Austrian band Summoning, whose lyrics draw inspiration from the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien.
I had the idea of gathering the best pictures i could find about the place i live, Madeira Island, and make a video using Summoning's music because the scenery fits perfectly the music.
This island is special because it is where there are some of the oldest forests in the world. The laurisilva forests of Macaronesia are relicts of a vegetation type which originally covered much of the Mediterranean Basin when the climate of the region was more humid. With the drying of the Mediterranean Basin during the Pliocene, the laurel forests gradually retreated, replaced by more drought-tolerant sclerophyll plant communities. Most of the last remaining laurisilva forests around the Mediterranean are believed to have disappeared approximately 10,000 years ago at the end of the Pleistocene, when the Mediterranean basin became warmer and drier, although some remnants of the laurel forest flora still persist in the mountains of southern Spain, north-center of Portugal and northern Morocco, and two constituent species (Laurus nobilis and Ilex aquifolium) remain widespread. The location of the Macaronesian Islands in the North Atlantic Ocean moderated these climatic fluctuations, and maintained the relatively humid and mild climate which has allowed these forests to persist to the present day.

California Car Company - Jim Gebhardt - Surrogate DAD
I love this man Jim Gebhardt. He has a mechanical engineering degree with an MBA and builds auto showrooms for a living. Years ago he realized the need to start collecting muscle cars in case he lost his job working for a difficult employer. 20 years later, he has a very exciting inventory of autos for sale on his website and in his showroom in Roswell, GA AND he has a personal collection of over 35 1955 through 1967 Chevrolets that he keeps in a 2story climate controlled garage.
Jim has made his vocation out of his avocation. Awesome man.

Barack Obama: Water for fuel
Extract from Barack Obama's speech/interview on reducing our reliance on oil/gasoline and saving consumers money.
Sorry, I couldn't get sound for the video clip, which is why I included the key quotes from Barack's speech.
The U.S. currently consumes one-quarter of the world's oil; 60% of the oil that we consume comes from foreign countries, including many countries whose interests are hostile to ours. To make matters worse, the oil used in the U.S. transportation sector accounts for one-third of our nation's emissions of greenhouse gases. It is long past time for the U.S. to take significant steps to use oil more efficiently in order to deal with the dual challenges of climate change and energy dependence."
" I am well aware that rising gas prices are hitting American consumers hard. It will take time for a long-term solution to be implemented, however for consumers that want an immediate solution to costly gasoline, I encourage them to investigate fuel uses home-grown products like corn or soybeans, or converting their vehicles to burn water as well as gasoline. I endorse websites such as Run Your Car With Water which offer a cheap and viable way of reducing emissions, along with reducing monetary pressures placed on every-day Americans due to high fuel prices."

"Our current course -- that is, maintaining our dependency on unstable regions of the world for the fuel that we cannot live without -- is far too great a risk to delay action. That requires us to take aggressive action that will set the stage for the second and third generation of fuels that will truly help us achieve energy independence and fight global warming. A low carbon fuel standard accomplishes these goals."

Marietta bar owner Mike Norman says the T-shirts he's peddling, featuring a look-a-like of cartoon chimp Curious George peeling a banana, with "Obama in '08" underneath, are not meant to offend.
Norman acknowledged the imagery's Jim Crow roots but said he sees nothing wrong with depicting a prominent African-American as a monkey.
"We're not living in the (19)40's," he said. "Look at him . . . the hairline, the ears — he looks just like Curious George."
About a dozen prostestors rallied against the shirts Tuesday afternoon, condemning them as racist and asking Norman, longtime proprietor of Mulligan's Bar and Grill on Roswell Street, to stop selling them.
Marietta native Pam Lindley, 47, joined the protest after reading about the controversy online.
"I don't want people to think this is what Marietta is all about," she added, motioning towards the tavern. "This is what some people think the South is still like. Marietta's come a long way but I guess it's still got a little ways to go."
She said she'd like to see the city ban Norman's provocative musings regularly posted on a sign out front of the bar, which is near Marietta's downtown square. The loosely formed coalition of civil rights activists who gathered Tuesday say they will continue their campaign against Norman's "hate speech."
But his defenders are just as resolute. Mulligan's is a refuge, they say, in an otherwise hypersensitive world. Here, smoking isn't only allowed, it's expected.
"This place is a diamond in the rough," said Gene McKinley, a Woodstock engineer. "People here are genuine and honest. It's the one place I can go without having to worry if I'm offending someone."
Norman said he's been he's been fielding calls throughout the day about his T-shirts, which he began selling in late April. "One guy in New Jersey wanted me to send him 100 shirts," said Norman, 63.
He said he noted physical similarities between the Democratic front runner and the cartoon monkey while watching a Curious George movie with his grandchildren.
Someone — "probably a customer, I don't know" — from Arkansas sent him the shirts, Norman says. He has no plans to mass market them.
Not that's he's bowing to pressure. The Tennessee native figures he's providing a public service of sorts, reminding people they have a right to offend.
"This is my marketing tool," he said.
